The 90-Day Experiment: How I Explore New Paths Without Getting Overwhelmed
I’ve learned something about life, especially in the fast-paced, hyperconnected world we live in:
There are endless paths to explore—but never enough time.
From business ideas to personal growth opportunities to relationships and health habits, it can feel like every direction holds potential. And yet, trying to pursue them all at once almost always leads to burnout or decision fatigue.
So, what do you do when there are too many good options and not enough bandwidth?
Here’s what I’ve started doing:
I treat my life and work like a series of experiments.
Not in a cold, clinical way—but in the same spirit as those science class experiments we used to do growing up. A sense of structure, curiosity, and no pressure to get it all “right” the first time.
My 3-Step Process for Running Life Experiments
When I feel pulled in multiple directions or uncertain about the next move, I go into “experimental mode.” Here’s how I do it:
1. Choose One Path
Instead of trying to pursue three or four ideas simultaneously, I pick one. Just one path, habit, or project to test for a limited period—usually 90 days.
This boundary gives me enough time to see meaningful results without feeling locked in forever.
2. Define the Hypothesis
I write down what I hope to achieve, why I’m choosing this path, and what success might look like. I also consider potential roadblocks and growth opportunities.
This helps me stay intentional, not just reactive.
3. Commit + Observe
Then I dive in.
For 90 days, I give this path the attention it deserves. I track outcomes, document insights, and try to stay curious—even when things don’t go as planned.
What Happens After the 90 Days?
I evaluate the results honestly:
Did this experiment move me forward?
Do I want to go deeper or make it a regular part of my life or work?
Or did I learn that this isn’t the right path for me after all?
Either way, I win.
I gain clarity. I make informed decisions based on experience, not just analysis. And I avoid the overwhelm that comes with juggling too many priorities at once.
Why This Works for Me
This “90-day experiment” framework keeps me from getting stuck in the spiral of indecision.
It turns unknowns into opportunities and builds momentum, even when I don’t have all the answers up front.
Most importantly, it allows me to explore possibilities while staying focused and grounded.
Have you ever tried approaching your goals like this—as experiments with a time-bound focus?
What would change if you gave yourself permission to test something without needing to commit forever?
I’d love to hear how you’re exploring new directions in your life or business.
